Low Testosterone Plaintiffs Claim Low T Drugs May Cause Heart Attacks

Low T drugs

Men who allegedly suffered heart attacks and other cardiac events while taking low T drugs are suing. As the AndroGel litigation progresses, we’ll look back at the first lawsuits filed back in 2014 below.

Plaintiffs Seek Justice for Heart Attacks, Strokes While Taking Low T Drugs

In April 2014, a Delaware man filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, North District of Illinois. According to court records, his father had a fatal heart attack after taking Axiron and AndroGel. A complaint filed April 8, 2014 states his 58-year-old father started using AndroGel in October 2011. Then, his doctor switched the man to Axiron in January 2013. The man had no heart issues before taking low t drugs, but died from a major heart attack in April 2012. The man claims AndroGel and Axiron’s manufacturers made false and misleading statements about their low t drugs. Despite knowing their products raised men’s risk for heart attacks, strokes and other events, they didn’t warn consumers.

FDA Investigates Cardiovascular Risks Linked to Low T Drugs

In January 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced an investigation into low t drugs. This warning came after two studies found low t drugs could increase men’s risk for stroke, heart attack and death. Court documents show men taking low t drugs filed more than 80 drug injury and product liability claims. Some complaints say that aggressive marketing cajoled men into taking low t drugs. These include allegedly false claims that low t drugs may improve libido, fatigue and other natural aging issues.

The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation grouped all AndroGel claims under a class action lawsuit in 2016. Fortesta, Axiron and AndroGel manufacturers asked to include all federal claims against low t drugs.
