Texas Man Files Complaint Against Low Testosterone Therapy

testosterone therapy

A Texas man joined countless others suing testosterone therapy treatment AndroGel’s manufacturer, AbbVie. David Lyon allegedly suffered serious heart complications while undergoing testosterone therapy with AndroGel. Despite marketing claims that told Lyon AndroGel was safe, he suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack) while using it.

Man Prescribed AndroGel Suffers Heart Attack

On June 2, 2014, Lyon filed a testosterone therapy lawsuit in an Illinoid U.S. District Court. In his lawsuit, Lyon alleged AbbVie and Abbott Laboratories didn’t disclose AndroGel’s serious side effect risks.

Lyon said he was prescribed the medication in January 2005 after suffering from low testosterone, and he noted that he has no previous history of heart problems but still suffered a heart attack in November 2005.

Texas Man Alleges Testosterone Therapy Manufacturer Committed Negligence, Breach of Warranty

Part of his claim included that AbbVie is preying on men with low-T as a way to cure side effects including fatigue and low libido. He’s pursuing failure to warn, negligence, breach of warranty, fraud, negligent misrepresentation and is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Studies Link Testosterone Therapy to Heart Attacks

In November 2013, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a low testosterone study. The study’s authors found increased risk for stroke, heart attack and death in older men taking testosterone boosters. Another January 2014 study found that testosterone therapy could double heart attack risks for men over 65. This risk increased in older men without preexisting heart conditions as well as younger men with heart disease.

Following this research, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began a systemic testosterone therapy safety review.

Men Injured by AndroGel Seek Justice In Court

Most testosterone therapy lawsuits currently underway involve AndroGel. In July 2017, the first AndroGel bellwether trial netted plaintiff Jesse Mitchell $150 million in damages.
